Harris Corporation Audio Solutions for TV Reduce Costs for Broadcasters, Improve Listening Experience for Consumers.
LAS VEGAS, April 13, 2008 — Harris Corporation introduces a suite of new audio solutions for TV broadcasters that allow for better distribution, management and control of the audio signal throughout the entire transport chain. New products include the world's first embedded audio processing router. The complete range of audio solutions Harris is showing at the 2008 National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) convention combine to provide reduced equipment cost and complexity in the broadcast facility, while improving the home audio experience for the viewer.

The combination of Harris® TDM MAX audio routing and wideband video within the Harris Platinum™ and Platinum™ MX routing platforms eliminates the need to use separate routers and external signal processing equipment to manipulate embedded solutions. At NAB2008, Harris introduces new audio processing modules to adjust and manipulate both discrete and embedded audio signals within the integrated routing solution — eliminating any need for external processing equipment and minimizing both cost of equipment and complexity of integration.

Harris also introduces upgrades to its Videotek® QuiC™ and VTM/TVM test and measurement solutions that meet various requirements of the ITU-R BS.1770 standard for audio level measurement. Harris is licensing loudness monitoring technology from TC Electronic for integration within the latest QuiC media analysis server.
The TC Electronic technology combines with the QuiC server's automated quality control and correction tools to maintain audio levels and remove unacceptable volume swells for the home viewer. Harris also introduces a new option card for VTM/TVM test and measurement systems to more accurately measure audio using oversampling techniques. Both tools provide engineers with improved, automated measurement techniques to verify comfortable audio levels of the signal as it passes through the distribution chain.

Harris also continues its relationship with Neural Audio Corporation, the market leader in developing advanced audio and surround sound technologies, to market Neural Loudness Control™ (NLC), an innovative perceptual loudness control solution for television broadcasters. First announced at the International Broadcasters Conference (IBC) in September 2007, NLC answers the need of TV broadcasters and network operators to manage perceived loudness levels within a specific desired volume range. As of NAB2008, NLC is also available in 2.0 and/or 5.1 versions or as an enhancement to the Neural THX®-Surround Upmix, Downmix and Multimerge products.
