Production Workflow Solutions
To keep pace in the highly competitive news and sports
markets, broadcasters are looking to migrate to high-definition
formats in ways that won't affect their productivity
or impact their on-air product during the transition.
Harris tackles this challenge with end-to-end, interoperable,
HD/SD news and sports solutions that provide broadcast
operations with a streamlined workflow, unmatched speed
to air and a crucial competitive advantage.
Highlights
at NAB2008 include an end-to-end demonstration of
the Harris® NewsForce HD/SD news platform,
showcasing a transparent HD/SD news operations from
ingest through production and editing to air. Harris
H-Class ADC-1000 automation will be shown
driving the Snell & Wilcox Kahuna production
switcher, as well as multiple Harris platforms, including
the NEXIO AMP media platform, Platinum
router, CENTRIO multiviewer and Inscriber®
G7 HD/SD 3D graphics system. Also on display

live news production and full integration of Apple®
Final Cut Pro®.
Media
Workflow Solutions
In the battle for ad dollars and viewers, streamlined
media workflows with tight interoperability
among automation, traffic, sales and billing and digital
asset management applications have become essential
to today's broadcasters. To address this need, Harris
is using industry standards like the SMPTE 2021 Broadcast
Exchange Format (BXF), Program and System Information
Protocol (PSIP) and International Standard Audiovisual
Number (ISAN) to integrate Harris H-Class and third-party
products to produce streamlined media workflows that
increase productivity and profitability. Highlights
at NAB2008 include demos of the new ADC-1000 automation,
OSi-Traffic and Comperio digital asset
management systems, configured to show advantages
such as a complete PSIP solution, automated playlist
exchange using BXF, and integration with nonlinear
editing using Apple® Final Cut Pro®. Harris
will also show enterprise tools that provide workflow
interoperability among Landmark sales, Vision
scheduling, Invenio® digital asset management
and the new D-Series DSX automation system.
Integration with SecurePath's MediaDNS automatically
provides content metadata and ISAN registration for
the digital asset management, sales and scheduling
systems.
Channel
Playout Solutions
Flexible playout systems that offer options for automated
content flow and high-impact graphics and crawls are
at a premium for broadcasters looking to new revenue
streams. To meet customers' varied requirements, Harris
provides a full range of scalable, automated channel
playout solutions from specialty channels to
fully automated, multichannel playout systems with
integrated master control. Highlights at NAB2008 include
major advances in the NEXIO AMP media platform, such
as the introduction of 1080p capability and the first
software-enabled media applications - ADC-1000 automation-enabled
ingest and playout, channel branding, audio track
management and multiviewer I/O monitoring; the Inscriber
G7 integrated HD broadcast graphics solution, which
provides powerful 3D capabilities while optimizing
workflow; as well as the industry's broadest multiviewer
portfolio, which enables broadcasters to reduce overhead
costs and improve their channel playout workflow.
3
Gb/s Solutions
From signal processing and routing to multiviewers
and video servers, Harris offers the industry's most
comprehensive range of cost-effective 3 Gb/s-ready
products enabling broadcasters to easily and
affordably migrate to the emerging 1080p high-definition
format. Most Harris 3 Gb/s products are software-keyed,
so customers don't pay for 3 Gb/s support until they
need it. Highlights at NAB2008 include the introduction
of 1080p capability in the NEXIO AMP advanced media
platform, making it the first video server in the
industry to offer support for the emerging standard;
the NEO® XHD-3903, the world's only HDTV converter
available with built-in 3 Gb/s 1080p 50/59.94 processing
and conversion capabilities, including a demonstration
of new linear frame rate conversion technology that
will be available as an option for the XHD-3903 in
June; the X85 enhanced all-in-one processor,
which packs the industry's most advanced technology
in a space-saving 1RU frame; and a new 3 Gb/s dual-input
module with built-in signal source for the popular
Videotek® TVM/VTM test and measurement instruments,
with field upgrade kits for existing products and
configurations also available.
Multiplatform
Delivery Solutions
Today's broadcasters are challenged with readying
their content for multiple applications and channeling
it through the right pipe, in the right format, at
the right time. Whether the requirement is to move
content inside the plant or across the country, Harris
offers a flexible, end-to-end solution to streamline
any delivery workflow.
Highlights
at NAB2008 include a statistical multiplexing feature
for NetVX MPEG-4/H.264 video encoders, which
allows broadcasters to deliver more channels to the
consumer without investing in additional transmission
bandwidth; new Videotek DDM-6800+ 8VSB, 64 QAM and
256 QAM demodulator modules, which combine with existing
6800+ modules to provide a low-cost, space-efficient
solution for RF-to-fiber interconnectivity in the
6800+ frame; and the Apex M2X MPH exciter, the
world's first exciter to support delivery of MPH
in-band mobile DTV services with terrestrial digital
TV and HDTV services using the same slice of bandwidth.
Digital
Signage Solutions
At NAB2008, Harris Digital Signage solutions
will be demonstrated supporting creative and production
activities, ad scheduling and placement, traffic and
billing with sophisticated report generation, and
the distribution and presentation of HD graphics and
live video at venues. Broadcast stations, groups and
networks can apply Harris Digital Signage to
license their programming to out-of-home networks
managed by third parties, and use these same capabilities
to establish their own out-of-home networks. Out-of-home
networks can apply Harris Digital Signage to
produce and schedule programming and ad content locally,
regionally, or nationally. Systems integrators and
dealers can grow their offer and associated opportunities
for revenue by representing Harris Digital Signage
to their customers.
Harris
Broadcast Communications offers products, systems
and services that provide interoperable workflow solutions
that span the entire broadcast delivery chain. The
Harris ONE approach brings together highly integrated
and cost-effective products that are ideal for emerging
media business models and for customers upgrading
media operations to digital and high-definition services.
