Harris Corporation Introduces High-power DMB 670 Multimedia Transmitter for International Mobile TV and Digital Radio Markets.
CINCINNATI, April 3, 2008 — Harris Corporation is addressing the growing international need for higher-power Digital Audio Broadcasting and Terrestrial-Digital Multimedia Broadcasting multimedia transmitters with the introduction of its DMB 670-4000 transmitter. Offering twice the power of the Harris® DMB 670 transmitter introduced at NAB2007, the 4 kW DMB 670-4000 supports international regions that use the Terrestrial-Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (T-DMB) standard to transmit mobile TV and digital radio from the same transmitter. The new transmitter will be displayed for the first time at NAB2008.

Harris® DMB 670 transmitters are the most compact DAB transmitters in the broadcast industry, and support the delivery of multiplexed Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB) digital audio and T-DMB mobile TV channels to mobile, handheld consumer devices. With twice the power, the Harris® DMB 670-4000 transmitter retains the same compact, lightweight footprint and energy-efficient, air-cooled design of its predecessor.

T-DMB broadcasters globally are looking to higher power levels to improve and maximise indoor and mobile reception of multimedia content. The DMB 670-4000 transmitter addresses unprecedented power levels for DAB/DMB broadcasting in a market-leading, energy-efficient package to provide a more robust transmission platform that better serves consumers on the move.

Harris® DMB 670 transmitters, available in power levels from 500 watts to 8 kW, share an architecture and components from the Harris® ZX® range of common amplification transmitters, and are completely RoHS compliant. Featuring Harris-designed amplifiers, power supplies and improved cooling features, all DMB 670 transmitters offer a compact footprint and impressive modularity, with the high level of performance associated with all Harris transmitters.

The DMB 670 transmitter can interface with headend equipment to build a complete solution for the encoding, multiplexing and transmission of multiple digital audio and video channels in a single transport stream. Factum Electronics of Sweden is providing the headend compression and multiplexing equipment to enable T-DMB demonstrations at the Harris NAB booth.

Harris® DMB 670 multimedia broadcast transmitters are among the wide range of Harris solutions that optimise the DAB transmission workflows of today's broadcast operations.

Harris Broadcast Communications provides products, systems, and services that deliver interoperable workflow solutions that span the entire broadcast delivery chain.
