Snell & Wilcox and Harris Corporation to Demonstrate Interoperable Newsroom Solution at 2008 NAB Show
HAMPSHIRE, U.K. — April 4, 2008 — Snell & Wilcox today announced that it has integrated its Kahuna SD/HD multiformat production switcher with the NewsForce™ SD/HD newsroom system from Harris® Corporation. As part of this collaboration, engineers from Harris and Snell & Wilcox worked together over a period of several months to integrate Kahuna with a broad range of Harris products including the Harris® Platinum™ router, NEXIO AMP™ server, ADC™ automation system, Inscriber® G7™ 3D graphics systems, and the CENTRIO™ multiviewer.

The two companies will demonstrate a joint Kahuna/NewsForce solution in the Harris booth at the upcoming NAB 2008 exhibition. This presentation will highlight the power of Kahuna for automated newsroom applications by using an AP ENPS rundown to deliver instructions to the Harris® ADC automation system, which will drive the Kahuna — queuing, playing, and switching media elements from that list and advancing them to air.

About Kahuna
Kahuna from Snell & Wilcox is the world's first and only true multi-format SD/HD production switcher. Thanks to a Snell & Wilcox technology called FormatFusion, Kahuna enables simultaneous SD and HD operations in the same mainframe and on the same control panel. This vastly simplifies the HDTV transition for broadcasters by eliminating the need for external HDTV up/down/cross converters in the live production environment, as well as the cost and the signal path delay associated with these products. Kahuna has the smallest size mainframe, lowest weight, and lowest power consumption when compared with other large switchers; and it has been integrated with dozens of third-party products including routers, servers, automation systems, and controllers.

About NewsForce™:
Built upon advanced Harris® NEXIO™ shared storage server architecture, NewsForce™ is a comprehensive, HD/SD news environment that provides file-based newsroom workflow from field editing to delivery on air. In combination with its family of high-performance, MOS-enabled news editors and Inscriber® graphics systems, NewsForce™ provides news operations with a powerful, richly featured SD/HD infrastructure that scales cleanly to accommodate all current and future broadcast needs.
