Snell & Wilcox Expands IQ Modular Range at the 2008 NAB Show
HAMPSHIRE, U.K. — Feb. 25, 2008 — Snell & Wilcox today announced that it is introducing a variety of new products with a wide array of functions for its industry-leading IQ Modular intelligent infrastructure system. These include an SD/HD down stream keyer, single- and dual-channel SD/HD/3G digital amplifiers, a new serial interfacing module, and a new second-generation Hyperion intelligent processor module. Also included in the new modules are two modules for Dolby E audio processing with automatic tracking delay and a Dolby E decoder.

The new range of single and dual-channel DAs allow for standard and high-definition signal processing while offering a simple path to upgrade to SMPTE 424M 3G-SDI technology in the future. This allows a "future-proof" investment for multichannel operations that extend beyond today's ATSC standards to handle a wide variety of emerging distribution channels that may come. It results in significant improvement in cable EQ distances at HD rates.

The IQHIP00 is a new single-unit, second generation Hyperion quality control engine that brings a higher level of sophistication to multichannel content monitoring and offers broadcasters significant new protections when airing high-value, premium television programs. Hyperion is a content monitoring system that uses intuitive algorithms that mimic human intelligence to provide dedicated audio, video, and metadata monitoring for all content throughout the broadcast infrastructure, from ingest to transmission. This new module now adds a dedicated local monitoring output, in addition to its remote IP thumbnailing capability, along with real-time frame accurate content status. There's even reporting through RollMap, the company's flagship control and monitoring system that provides a rich graphical monitoring environment.

Also new is the IQDSK00 modular HD/SD-SDI multiformat keyer. This provides an external interface to the company's SD/HD Kahuna production switcher or other processor for direct seamless keyer control via a DSK GUI. When used with the Kahuna switcher, this unit frees up M/E resources for other tasks.

Enhancements to RollCall Control & Monitoring System
In addition, Snell & Wilcox's IQ Modular infrastructure features new improvements in RollMap, the system's infrastructure management function. New features in RollMap v3.1 include custom-defined controls, SMS, e-mail alerts, and alarm-level masking and filtering. The next-generation RollSNMP v2.3 includes advances in system-level performance and integration of third-party SNMP traps into RollMap.

RollCall Control Applet v2.1 includes local and remote control capability with improved responsiveness of system-wide control to ease operational workflows and a full module backup and restore facility allowing operational uptime benefits. And RollMechanic eases operator workload by allowing single or multiple module cloning and with full network backup and restore. An upgrade manager allows users to carry out product software upgrades on single or multiple units.

The new modules are part of a 400-plus system of converters, synchronizers, distribution amplifiers, routers, and audio modules — capable of operating at SD/HD and 3G resolutions, and with the flexibility of being used in multiple ways and configurations.

Each new Snell & Wilcox IQ Module is designed to let broadcasters take control of their transition to digital broadcasting, while being IT aware for the next generation of workflow technology. These "smart" infrastructure building blocks — which can quickly and easily adapt to change — allow engineers to build seamless bridges between different generations of broadcast equipment. Such powerful flexibility empowers engineers to adapt their plants quickly to take advantage of new business opportunities and ever-changing services.
