2008: Rohde & Schwarz enhances broadcasting efficiency |
|
Meudon-la-Forêt, le 16 juillet 2008 - "Driving
Efficiency" is the motto under which Rohde &
Schwarz will present its innovations at the International
Broadcasting Convention. As an innovation for broadcasting
T&M, the R&S ETH will be showcased for the first
time. This portable instrument offers TV and spectrum
analysis for mobile applications. In addition, Rohde
& Schwarz scores with its transmitters due to their
innovative energy concept that increases efficiency
by up to 20 percent and reduces operating costs. This
concept has already been implemented in the R&S
NX8600 and R&S NX8300 high-power and medium-power
transmitters. As a new highlight for DAB and T-DMB,
the R&S NA8200 family of high-power transmitters
boasts an energy-efficient system design and the new
R&S SX801 DAB exciter. |
The company's product portfolio supports the world's
most common digital broadcasting standards, including
ATSC, DVB-T/-H, DTMB, MediaFLO, T DMB, DAB, ISDB-T
and also its recent Brazilian version ISDB-TB. Furthermore,
Rohde & Schwarz now offers the first options for
the DVB-SH satellite-to-mobile standard and the Chinese
CMMB mobile TV standard for broadcasting T&M equipment.
The R&S ETH handheld TV
analyzer for DVB-T/H will be premiered at
the IBC. The analyzer is a portable solution for indoor
coverage measurements as well as for the installation
and maintenance of low-power transmitters. It is therefore
ideal for TV net-work operators that broadcast in DVB-T
and for providers that operate a mobile TV network using
DVB-H. The handheld analyzer's high-contrast color display
and its capability to run up to 4.5 hours on battery
power make it ideal for outdoor use.
The R&S Nx8600 high-power
transmitters and the
R&S Nx8300 medium-power transmitters
feature an innovative energy concept. The core of this
innovation is new amplifier technology. The amplifier
characteristic can be selected to yield high efficiency
even if the transmitter is operated at reduced power.
The cooling system has also been optimized. All these
features make it possible to reduce the energy consumption
by as much as 15 percent, particularly of the medium-power
transmitters. This benefits not only the environment,
but also transmitter network operators and program providers
since operating costs decrease.
Another new asset in the Rohde & Schwarz transmitter
portfolio is the R&S NA8200
family of DAB transmitters. These transmitters
are suitable for VHF band III and output DAB and T-DMB
signals in the high-power range. Their output power
is higher and their footprint lower than that of the
existing DAB transmitters of the R&S NA6000 series.
The R&S NA8200 family is also equipped with a function
for optimizing efficiency at reduced output power. It
furthermore comprises the new R&S SX801 DAB exciter.
All important transmitter components are redundant in
design. The
R&S NA8200 transmitters are air-cooled via internal
fans. Remote control interfaces and a color display
pro-vide operating convenience. If required, the R&S
NA8200 transmitters can be easily upgraded to the R&S
NW8200 TV transmitters, e.g. for DVB-H or MediaFLO.
