Zaxcom IBC2008 Show Preview
July 1, 2008 – Zaxcom, Inc. designs and manufactures innovative professional audio equipment for the television and film industries. A pioneer in audio technologies for sound mixing and ENG professionals, Zaxcom engineered the first digital wireless microphone and the first wireless microphone to feature integrated audio recording (patent pending). New Products at IBC2008.

Fusion High-Resolution Audio Recorder/Mixer
Zaxcom's Fusion high-resolution audio mixer and recorder, debuting in Europe at IBC2008, is optimized for use in reality television, surround recording, and ENG applications. It replaces the multiple mixers and portable recorders that normally would be required to support mixing and recording of audio to camera via RF link or hardwired cable. Fusion can mix together 16 inputs to eight output busses for recording up to eight tracks.

Fusion achieves low weight and superior power efficiency by eliminating the use of a hard drive, which additionally removes concerns of hard drive damage from extreme temperatures or motion. The system records to two CompactFlash® cards simultaneously, ensuring 100 percent solid-state recording that provides both redundancy and flexibility.
With the Fusion's DSP-based audio tools, users can adjust over 300 mixer cross-points and 200 controllable parameters. Four balanced AES inputs with sample-rate conversion allow eight channels of audio to come from four different devices with varying sample rates or unlocked sample-rate clocks. Fusion also provides an effects package that is unrivaled in portable audio systems.

Deva Mix-8 Fading and Mixing Panel

Showing for the first time in Europe at IBC2008 is Zaxcom's Deva Mix-8, a small eight-fader mixing panel that integrates directly with the company's Deva IV, V, 5.8, 16, and Fusion systems. The Deva Mix-8 unleashes the internal mix functions of the host audio recorder, eliminating the expense and bulk of traditional external mixing consoles. The unit features long 100-mm faders, input trim pots, and input level meters and is powered directly from the main Deva unit via a single cable.

Other Products on Display:

TRX Family of Digital Recording WirelessTM Microphone Transceivers
Zaxcom will demonstrate its full line of wireless systems, including the popular TRX900 and TRX900AA digital wireless microphone transceivers, the plug-on-style TRX700, and the TRX800 handheld transmitter. These systems are optimized for use in ENG and other broadcast applications; reality television productions; concert, presentation, and theater settings; and in any other audio production that requires mobility, premium sound quality, and superior performance. With the optional internal recording feature, these wireless audio microphone systems can also ensure redundancy in case of audio dropouts. A wide feature set is available, including support for transmission of IFB audio, time code, and remote control signals.

Deva Family of Hard-Disk Audio Recorders/Mixers
Zaxcom's Deva family provides multi-disk, multi-track, multi-format recording on location, with automatic backup to DVD-RAM or CompactFlash®. With the ability to background-record multiple disks throughout a day, Deva users are able to save time in feature film and television productions by recording disk copies required for post-production at the same time as the original recordings are created. Production staff can reference previous recordings immediately while still on-set, reducing potential conflicts with post while also safeguarding against lost, damaged, or stolen material with automatically generated backup copies.

Zaxcom will display the Deva 5.8 and 16 systems. The company's latest introduction, the Deva 16, is a complete one-package, 16-track solution for audio recording, mixing, and effects. With eight hardware faders plus an integrated hard drive, DVD-RAM, and CompactFlash® memory card slot, Zaxcom's Deva 16 provides fault-tolerant, multi-disk recording from eight analog mic/line inputs with 48-V phantom power, four analog line inputs, and eight digital inputs. A 16-channel, 24-bus digital mixer is built into the unit, providing EQ, notch filter, compressor, and delay functions on each channel
