Called
InFILE (re-branded from Caption Commander), the Windows-based
application works in the same way as an SDI-based inserter
but operates on MPEG-2 files thereby eliminating the
need for a manual dub or re-ingestion. With the growth
of file-based usage across the broadcast spectrum, InFILE
clearly satisfies rising market demand.
Users
supply InFILE with the file names of the source MPEG-2
file and the subtitle file that has already been created
using the appropriate technology - SysMedia's WinCAPS,
for example. InFILE then creates a new MPEG-2 output
file with exactly the same encoding parameters as
the original (e.g. bit rate, chroma, GOP structure
etc.) with the timed teletext subtitles now inserted
into the designated line of the VBI (broadcast-quality
MPEG-2 up to 50Mb/s 4:2:2 Profile). A preview-quality
open caption equivalent (where subtitles are "burnt-in"
to the video picture, MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 DVD bit rate)
can be created at the same time, ideal for viewing
on a PC for instance.
