Launch pad for IMPALA at IBC 2006
(25/07/2006) IBC2006 provides the launch pad for IMPALA (International MHEG Promotion Alliance), a new organisation formed by software manufacturers to promote the use of the MHEG-5 interactive TV standard.

Founder members Strategy & Technology and Cabot Communications, together with supporting companies from the industry will be present to provide more information on the MHEG-5 technology and membership of IMPALA.

Originally developed and standardised by ISO in the mid 1990s as part of the DAVIC standardisation effort to support interactivity and navigation for video-on-demand services, MHEG-5 has achieved significant success on the UK's Freeview DVB-T platform with over 12 million receivers deployed using UK Profile 1. The latest version is also an ETSI standard.

IBC2006 visitors are invited to call at the IMPALA stand and find out more on how MHEG-5 technology can help broadcasters and receiver manufacturers with the deployment of interactive services in international markets. MHEG-5 provides an efficient, cost-effective and flexible standard that can be rapidly deployed into digital TV markets by broadcasters, terrestrial, satellite, or cable operators interested in low cost interactive TV services.
