Set
to be highlighted at the show is the Resolve®
digital mastering suite featuring all three Resolve
configurations: FX, DI, and RT. The Resolve FX will
be running Revival image restoration software,
which will display its two newest features, improved
Grain Reduction and da Vincis exclusive Color
Registration tool.
da
Vincis newest product, Splice, just released
in April and designed as a bridge to enable nonlinear
workflow capabilities for da Vinci 2K/2K Plus users,
will be demonstrated at IBC2006. Demonstrations of
powerful new options for the 2K Plus color enhancement
system will also be offered, including ColorTrace,
a session reconform tool that matches color decisions
with editorial changes.
Resolve
Digital Mastering Suite
The innovation and genius of da Vinci that have made
it the cornerstone of color enhancement continues
to evolve as the company shows its industry-standard
products for the DI (digital intermediate) workflow
at IBC2006. The Resolve FX, Resolve DI, and Resolve
RT systems are each designed to address specific post-production
applications and are optimized for varying resource
demands.
Resolve
FX is an excellent entry-level solution for studios
wanting to offer file-based, nonlinear color enhancement
and conforming work making it ideal for processing
and matching short clips in a less-demanding digital
intermediate workflow. Resolve FX is equipped with
PowerPlant, da Vincis software-programmable
image-processing accelerator.
With
two PowerPlants for enhanced processing power, Resolve
DI is the perfect fit for digital intermediate projects
calling for a substantial volume of color-look creation
and conforming. When ultimate speed performance is
required, the Resolve DI can be reconfigured and upgraded
to the RT system.
Resolve
RT is the top-of-the-line system, optimized for studios
requiring speed, flexibility, efficiency, and high-volume
throughput. Resolve RT addresses the specific needs
of true real-time image processing in film, digital
intermediate, and video finishing applications. Greatest
speed and performance are delivered with PowerGrid,
a unique set of da Vinci-exclusive programmable PowerPlant
accelerator boards that deliver real-time, multilayered
color correction on full-film-resolution images, not
just proxies. Also featured are conforming tools,
a file browser, a formatter, and real-time waveform
monitoring of data, a unique capability that allows
colorists to view simultaneously a vectorscope, parade,
or histogram display of the color grades theyre
applying.
Splice
Splice creates a "virtual telecine" for
the world-standard da Vinci 2K/2K Plus, offering users
a bridge to nonlinear workflow with pan, tilt, zoom,
and rotate capabilities in real time. Splice blends
key technologies from da Vinci's Resolve® Digital
Mastering Suite to allow new and existing da Vinci
2K/2K Plus users to expand and leverage their equipment
investment.
Powered
by da Vinci's exclusive Transformer image-processing
accelerator, which provides real-time sizing and rotation,
Splice allows colorists to conform, transform, grade,
arrange, and deliver images in any order, in real
time, and at unsurpassed quality. Operating as a front-end
for the da Vinci 2K, Splice presents itself as a new
device on the 2K control panel and provides operators
with the types of controls one would normally only
associate with a telecine environment.
Enhancements
to da Vincis 2K Plus
At IBC2006, da Vinci will be featuring an improved
toolset for its 2K Plus, the industrys leading
color enhancement system and the most widely used
system in digital intermediate (DI) applications.
The da Vinci team will show how the 2K Plus can be
utilized in both linear and nonlinear applications
to accomplish a digital intermediate workflow.
ColorTrace
is the five-second solution to the five-hour
problem. ColorTrace enables colorists to update
2K color sessions automatically to match editorial
changes as they occur within program material, essentially
doing in seconds what used to involve hours of manual
copying and list-manipulation time, and offering post-production
facilities a more efficient DI workflow.
Revival
At IBC2006, demonstrations of da Vincis Revival
image restoration system will be featured on the Resolve
FX digital mastering suite. With the integration of
Revival into the Resolve digital mastering suite,
colorists now have direct access to a robust set of
restoration tools while completing color grading.
This integration saves post houses time, money, and
hassle by eliminating the need for moving data between
workstations, allowing colorists to address unexpected
restoration tasks without delay. With this new platform,
facilities are able to operate an image restoration
toolset concurrent with digital color grading, without
having to purchase additional hardware.
New
DI tools for Revival include a Color Registration
tool, which realigns color channels warped at varying
degrees due to uneven fading and shrinking over time.
With one click, color layers are woven back into synchronization
without loss of any material from the original image.
Revival also offers a new, improved Grain- and Noise-Reduction
tool. By isolating both high- and low-frequency noise,
the high-quality noise reduction feature will allow
the user to make adjustments to noise independent
to grain.
